Hyder Living: A Legacy of Bespoke British Sleep

At Hyder Living, we believe that a mattress is not a commodity—it is a tailored sanctuary. While the modern marketplace is flooded
with generic "one-size-fits-all" beds from massive online retailers, we remain steadfast in our commitment to the art of bespoke manufacturing.

Our history is woven into the fabric of British industry, and our future is dedicated to your personal comfort.

A Journey of Three Generations

The story of Hyder Living began decades ago in a modest Yorkshire workshop. Founded on the principles of honest labor and technical mastery, the business has been passed down through three generations of the same family.

What started as a small local venture has evolved into one of the UK’s most long-established and respected mattress manufacturers.
We have survived the shift from traditional springs to modern foams by never losing sight of the "human touch." Today, we combine that rich heritage with 2026 precision technology to create the finest sleep surfaces in the country.

The "Tailored Suit" Philosophy

When you buy a mattress from a marketplace, you are buying a product made for the "average" person. At Hyder Living, we don't believe the average person exists.

  • Made to Order: We do not keep stacks of dusty mattresses in a warehouse. Every single mattress is handcrafted only once an order is placed.

User Profile Mapping: We treat every customer like a member of our own family. We take the time to understand your sleep position, your body profile, and your personal preferences to build a mattress that fits you like a bespoke tailored suit.

What you should consider before purchasing a mattress.

You will be spending a third of your life on your bed mainly the mattress. Take your time and find the best fit, one which will aid and help you rejuvenate with a comfortable sleep and feel fresh every day.

When buying a mattress, consider the UK's standard sizes, what type of mattress, firmness, style, and your specific needs for a good sleep.

Mattress Size

There are many mattress sizes depending on where you purchase them from. We use UK standard sizes.

Mattress Types Explained Simply

Pocket Sprung Mattresses

  • Individual springs respond to your body
  • Better pressure relief
  • Reduced movement transfer

Ideal for: Couples and everyday use.

Memory Foam Mattresses

  • Contours to your body
  • Pressure-relieving
  • Can feel warmer for some sleepers as close cell structure recycles the heart and does not dissipate. Considered not breathable.

Hybrid Mattresses

  • Combination of springs and foam
  • Balanced comfort and support
  • Popular across UK retailers

Mattress Settlement (Important to Know)

All quality mattresses naturally settle over time. This is normal and expected.

Settlement happens as:

  • The mattress contours to your body
  • Comfort layers relax with use

This does not mean the mattress is faulty. It means it is doing its job.

Choosing the Right Firmness

Firmness is personal there is no “best” option.

  • Soft to Medium: Side sleepers
  • Medium: Most sleepers
  • Medium to Firm: Back sleepers- Also known as Ortho
  • Firm: Heavier sleepers or specific support needs. Also Known as Ortho.

A well-made base will help any firmness level perform better.
